Traveling the world for the last 5 years has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined… And over this time I’ve been able to gain an understanding about people in general.

You see, media is powerful when it comes to influencing people’s perception of the world.

I might even go as far to say the media fuels ignorance.

Ignorance: (noun) the state or fact of being ignorant; lack of knowledge, learning, information, etc.

People around the world are ignorant of many things due to lack of information. We rely too much on the news or of other peoples’ opinions…

But how can we judge others for being ignorant when we are ignorant ourselves?

Travel cures ignorance

I was in Thailand with my brother for a while… Two 6+ foot guys with athletic builds walking around. And everywhere we went, 90% of the time we would get comments like, “Oooh you play basketball” (read that in a Thai accent).

All they see in media is rappers, actors, athletes, Obama, and drug dealers.

Let’s flip it a bit… Honestly, what is your first thought when you read the lines below:

What is your first thought when you think of the country Colombia?

What is your first thought when you hear the word ‘Muslim’?

What is your first thought when you think of the country Panama?

What is your first thought when you think of the country Kenya?

What about Thailand?

There’ll be a difference between your perception and the reality….

Traveling changes perception

For me, growing up in Chicago most of my life, I had a very small view of the world. When I thought about travel and ‘exotic’ destinations that I would enjoy, I would immediately think of Paris, Italy, the Bahamas, or Spain…

Places like Africa, Asia, South America, and the Middle East were never high on my list.

Looking back, I asked myself why I thought this way.

And I came to realize it was because of all the media I subjected myself to.

As soon as I started traveling, my perception of the world changed dramatically and I had a desire to do something different…

My mission became to create my own media. Media of the places that don’t have much coverage, or places that are just simply misunderstood. To showcase the beauty of all these countries that the media place a taboo on.

Traveling Panama

Traveling the world has never been easier. There are more flights, paved roads, and better communication than ever before. It’s only getting better with time. I could go off on so many topics but I’ll save those for another day.

I figured the best way to show the world the places that the media doesn’t really cover is through video.

Over the last few years we have started to create short travel documentaries on the places we visit.

For example, what is your first thought when you think of the country, Panama?

Mine was the Panama Canal…. That was only thing I really knew about the country.

But watch this. It’s a short documentary we made in Panama.

We have a lot more of these on the way.
